Based on our own experience and the many tips we have received from enthusiastic holidaymakers, it is our pleasure to present to you the Azores! Flight to Ponta Delgada. This is the capital of São Miguel, the largest island of the Azores. Our friendly and professional English-speaking tour guide will meet us at the airport. We will take a modern coach to our exclusive 4-star hotel, the VIP EXECUTIVE AZORES, which is located in the centre of Ponta Delgada. After breakfast, we will explore Ponta Delgada together on a tour of the city. We will walk through the historic centre and see the church of São Sebastião, the church of Todos os Santos from the 18th century, and the impressive Esperança Monastery. We will also have a browse around the famous traditional market, pervaded by scents of sweet, sun-ripened fruit and tasty cheese. We will also enjoy breath-taking vistas out over the azure waters of the ocean from a number of viewing points. Our tour guide will tell us everything there is to know about the city‘s exciting history. Today, you can enjoy the amenities at your 4-star hotel and have a wander around through Ponta Delgada. Also on the agenda is the spectacular highlight of any trip to the Azores: marvel at whales and dolphins up-close on a unique, optional boat trip. These giants of the sea can be watched in their natural habitat off the coasts of the Azores. There are around 25 species of marine mammal here. These include sperm whales, bottlenose dolphins, round-headed dolphins, common dolphins and many other whale and dolphin species. The breathtaking wildlife will captivate you. Today, we travel to Sete Cidades. This enormous crater, which is 7,5 miles in diameter, is one of the most beautiful the Azores has to offer. For inside it sparkles a magnificent lake. A bridge divides the lake visually into 2 halves. One shimmers a beautiful blue, while the other is a magical green. There is a scientific and a romantic explanation for this astonishing abundance of colours. Our tour guide will be happy to tell you everything. We travel through breathtaking landscapes, delight in fascinating views and have ample opportunity to take photographs during several breaks. Last but not least, we visit a plantation and learn more about the king of fruits of the Azores, the pineapple. A further highlight of the island of São Miguel is the impressive Furnas Valley. We would love to take you with us on this unforgettable, optional all-day excursion. The Furnas Valley has a beautiful lake and the legendary ‘Caldeiras‘ hot springs. You can also marvel at the hot, steamy sulphur pools here. They are used at mealtimes for cooking on. You will also see the village of Furnas and take a walk through the ‘Terra Nostra‘ botanical gardens (admission included). This is an exotic plant paradise with a large, iron-rich thermal water pool. On the way back to our modern 4-star hotel in Ponta Delgada, we see and visit the oldest tea plantation in Europe. Today we are going on an exploration tour to Nordeste. On the way there, lined with plane trees, we enjoy breathtaking views of the ocean. We start with a visit to Povoação, the part of the island that was settled by the Portuguese in the 15th century. In the afternoon, we reach Nordeste. The dreamlike landscape is strongly characterised by the cliffs steeply descending to the sea. The vibrant green of the Laurisilva forest, the deep blue of the ocean, and the small villages impress us. The highlight awaits us with the nature park of Ribeira dos Caldeirões with its famous bridal veil waterfall. If you like, you can enjoy a natural panorama of unique beauty today. On this optional whole-day excursion you will first visit the village of Lagoa. It is primarily known for its traditional ceramics. There, the emerald green shimmering Fire Lagoon awaits you, the ‘Lagoa do Fogo‘, a crater lake, framed by steep banks where seagulls screech in circles. Here, we stroll through a unique natural scenery. Then we continue to Caldeira Velha (admission included), a significant nature reserve of Sao Miguel, and to the village of Ribeira Grande, popular for its beautiful centre and the delicious liqueurs. Finally, we visit the most beautiful sandy beach on the island, Santa Barbara. Afterwards, we return to Ponta Delgada filled with unforgettable impressions. Today, we say farewell. For entry, UK citizens should have six months left on the passport on the date of your arrival to an EU country and the passport should be less than 10 years old. A stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period is permitted without a visa. If you are planning to travel to an EU country you must meet the Schengen area rules. Your passport must meet 2 requirements. It must be:
• less than 10 years old on the day you enter (check the ‘date of issue’)

You can travel to countries in the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa. Check your passport is stamped if you enter or exit the Schengen area through Spain as a visitor. Border guards will use passport stamps to check you’re complying with the 90-day visa-free limit for short stays in the Schengen area. Make sure you get your passport stamped on entry and exit (until November 2024). From November 2024, the new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) will start for all non-EU nationals, including British nationals, travelling in or out of the Schengen area. The Schengen area is made up of 29 European countries, 25 of which are EU Member States. The EES is a digital border system which registers non-EU visitors travelling into the Schengen area instead of stamping their passports. You will need to have your fingerprints and your photo taken when entering the Schengen area. You may experience longer queues at borders when the new system starts (https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees_en).
Next to this the EU will implement a new visa waiver system in 2025, called ETIAS, which will be valid for three years. British passport holders travelling to the EU will need to apply and pay for an ETIAS, via an online system (https://etias.com/).
